Surgery

Back to Services

Our experienced surgical team performs a wide range of procedures, from routine neutering to more complex soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery. Patient safety and comfort are always our top priority.

Routine Surgery

Common routine procedures include:

  • Neutering (castration and spaying) — for dogs, cats, and rabbits
  • Lump removals — including histopathology for accurate diagnosis
  • Wound repair — stitching and wound management
  • Dental procedures — scale and polish, extractions

Soft Tissue Surgery

We perform a variety of soft tissue surgical procedures, including:

  • Abdominal exploratory surgery
  • Bladder stone removal (cystotomy)
  • Splenectomy
  • Intestinal surgery (enterotomy/resection and anastomosis)
  • Mass removals
  • Eye surgery (cherry eye, entropion)
  • Ear surgery (aural haematoma, total ear canal ablation)

Anaesthesia and Monitoring

All surgical procedures are performed under general anaesthetic. We use modern anaesthetic protocols tailored to each patient's needs, taking into account their age, breed, and health status.

During surgery, your pet is continuously monitored by a dedicated nurse using:

  • Pulse oximetry (blood oxygen levels)
  • Capnography (CO₂ monitoring)
  • ECG (heart rhythm)
  • Blood pressure monitoring
  • Temperature monitoring

Pain Management

We take pain management very seriously. All surgical patients receive multi-modal pain relief, which may include injectable pain relief, local anaesthetic nerve blocks, and take-home medication. We believe that effective pain control is essential for a smooth recovery and will discuss pain management with you before and after any procedure.

Pre-Surgical Preparation

What to Expect

  • A pre-operative consultation to discuss the procedure and answer your questions
  • Pre-anaesthetic blood tests may be recommended (especially for older or unwell patients)
  • Your pet will need to be starved from the evening before (water is usually allowed until the morning)
  • Drop-off is typically between 8:30am and 9:30am on the day of surgery
  • Most patients go home the same day with pain relief and aftercare instructions
